About The Ben Gurion University CMRAThe Center for Multidisciplinary Research in Aging was established in 2000 with the goal of fostering a synergistic environment for multidisciplinary and interdisciplinary research and education in Geriatrics and Gerontology. The Center’s location in the Faculty of Medical Sciences, Ben-Gurion University of the Negev (BGU), and the Soroka University Medical Center, ensures access to all the departments and faculties relevant to research in aging. The Center also benefits from its location in the Negev region. The residents of the Negev comprise an intriguing mosaic of racial and ethnic backgrounds. They are immigrants from North Africa, Ethiopia, India, Europe, North and South America and the republics of the former Soviet Union; they are Bedouin Arabs and Jews born in Israel; they live in cities, development towns, kibbutzim, agricultural and Bedouin settlements. The diverse backgrounds and lifestyles of the Negev population provide a natural laboratory for research and for varied innovative interventions directed to promoting the health and well being of the elderly.
